Role Overview
We are seeking a Lead Mechanical Engineer who can manage the mechanical engineering and manufacturability aspects of our product development, contribute to the process actively and hands-on, and cooperate closely with our other multidisciplinary teams in the process. This role requires a strong leader who has the skill set of a senior mechanical engineer, and extensive experience in product development and product manufacturability (serial production products). In addition to the active mechanical development work they do themselves, they are also expected to lead the mechanical team & all mechanics-related activities, ensuring the projects advance according to scope, timeline and budget. This role combines hands-on expertise with strategic leadership that will result in effective execution of development. This is a full-time, onsite position in Tallinn, Estonia. The working language is English.
Key Responsibilities
- Actively participate and lead a team of mechanical engineers, ensuring efficient collaboration within the team and with other teams to ensure successful project execution.
- Take ownership of mechanical design, development and manufacturability to ensure timely and budget-conscious product advancement.
- Conduct and oversee Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to identify potential risks and design improvements.
- Ensure designs meet industry certifications and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure manufacturability is optimized considering BOM cost, assembly time and assembly cost.
- Ensure all work is properly documented.
- Engage in hands-on mechanical work, including prototyping, rapid prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical engineers, software developers, and production teams to integrate mechanical components seamlessly.
- Work closely with suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure design feasibility and scalability.
Essential Skills/Experience/Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 7+ years of work experience within mechanical engineering/ manufacturing.
- Proven work experience as a Senior Mechanical Engineer or in a leadership role within mechanical engineering.
- Strong knowledge of FMEA, various certification processes, and compliance requirements.
- Hands-on experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, CATIA).
- Deep understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, and manufacturing processes
- Expertise in design for manufacturability (DFM) and prototype development.
- Ability to manage people, and multiple projects, prioritise tasks, and drive results within deadlines.
- Strong ability to prepare documentation, reports and presentations.
- Proactive and independent problem solver with a hands-on approach.
- Excellent manual skills (assembly, prototyping etc)
- Strong leadership and teamwork skills with the ability to communicate effectively.
- Fluent in written and spoken English.
Advantageous Skills/Experience
- Experience in fuel cells, electrolysers, or battery technology.
- Knowledge of mechanical and thermal FEA simulation.
- A strong interest in sustainable energy technologies.
